Book and Author: 1946 Royal Indian Navy Mutiny: Last War of Independence ~ Pramod Kapoor
The February edition will feature Pramod Kapoor’s book on the Last war of India’s Independence in 1946 when twenty thousand sailors of the Royal Indian Navy took over seventy-eight ships and twenty-one shore establishments and replaced British flags with the entwined flags of the Congress, the Muslim League, and the communists. This event was the ‘last straw’ which broke the back of the Empire and hastened the British departure from India.
The mutiny caused public disagreements between Mahatma Gandhi and Aruna Asaf Ali on the one hand, and between Sardar Patel and Nehru on the other. It was the muse to many thespians, poets, artists, and filmmakers but did not become part of the popular narrative of the Freedom Movement.

Award winning and globally acclaimed author Pramod Kapoor, the founder and publisher of Roli Books has undertaken a thorough research on the seminal event featuring the Royal Indian Navy.

He will be in conversation with Sandeep Unnithan, the Managing Editor of India Today and specialises in writings on National Security issues. His book Operation X, co-authored with captain MNR Samant, MVC details a covert maritime warfare unit of the India Navy in the 1971 India Pakistan War.

The session will be moderated by Sanjeev Chopra, Festival Director of Valley of Words, and a Distinguished Fellow of the USI
