October edition will discuss the shortlisted book for the MAMI Best Book on Cinema Award, Balaji Vittal’s latest Pure Evil, by Harper Collins.
The author examines in detail the misdeeds of the gangster, the sly relative, the corrupt policeman, the psychopathic killer…. As he digs deep into Hindi film villains from Ajit, Praan, Prem Chopra, Amzad Khan to Amrish Puri et al.
Of the handful of writers and speakers on the literature of Indian films, Balaji is one of the most consistent voices in India. Co-author of the National Film Award-winning R.D. Burman: The Man, The Music (2011), the MAMI Award-winning Gaata Rahe Mera Dil – 50 Classic Hindi Film Songs (2015), and the highly acclaimed S.D. Burman: The Prince-Musician (2018).
Balaji will be in conversation with author Bhawana Somaaya. Bhawana has been writing on cinema for over four decades. She is currently the Film Expert with Radio Channel 92.7 BIG FM and does Friday reviews of films on the radio and weekly columns for numerous media houses.
The session will be moderated by Dr Sanjeev Chopra, Festival Director, Valley of Words|Shabdavali, International Literature and Arts Festival.
