About the Event
A Physical Workshop on The Future of Digital Libraries in India and the Importance of Digital Education was successfully conducted at Medinipur City College on 26th March 2025. The event emphasized the transformative role of digital resources in education, particularly in semi-urban and nearby areas, where access to academic materials remains a challenge.
The session was graced by Dr. Pradip Ghosh, Director; Dr. Sudipta Chakrabarti, Principal; Dr. Kuntal Ghosh, Vice Principal; and Mr. Ashish Kumar Barik, Assistant Librarian of Medinipur City College. Eminent guests, including Dr. Praloy Kr. Bhattacharya, Librarian of Garhbeta College; Mr. Netai Mandal, Librarian of Midnapore College; and Mr. Ananta Kumar Duary, Superintendent of Library Services, Central Library, Vidyasagar University, also attended the event.
Additionally, Mr. Suman Panja, and Mr. Rik Bhattacharya from the NDLI Outreach Team delivered impactful talks on how NDLI and NDLI Clubs respectively. These sessions provided an in-depth understanding of the importance of digital libraries in modern education and how students in remote areas can benefit from these platforms.
The workshop underscored the urgent need to expand digital library initiatives beyond metropolitan areas, focusing on enhancing awareness and encouraging the adoption of digital learning tools among students in semi-urban communities. With 400 participants joining both online and offline, the session witnessed enthusiastic engagement, reinforcing the importance of sustained outreach in underserved regions.
