The July edition of ‘Afternoon with an Author’ brings to you AK Bhattacharya’s book: India’s Finance Ministers From Independence to Emergency, published by Penguin, India.
The book is the first in-depth account of the crucial role a handful of finance ministers have played in the functioning of India’s economy.
From Independence to Emergency: India’s Finance Ministers 1947-1977 celebrates the success stories of India’s unforgettable finance ministers who shaped India’s economy in its nascent years. Interlaced with anecdotes the pages celebrates those who have left their mark. It is an attempt to measure the impact these men and their decisions left, not only on India’s economic system but also on its political system.
Lead Discussant for the session is T K Arun a Delhi-based journalist and columnist. He has been the resident editor of the Economic Times at Delhi, headed the economy bureau and looked after the editorial page of the paper in the past.
He has worked as a technical advisor at the Kerala State Planning Board, before beginning his career in journalism in 1992 at the Observer of Business and Politics.
The session will be moderated by Sanjeev Chopra, Festival Director of Valley of Words.
