About the Event:
The HNDB Central Library of Assam down town University successfully organized a One Day State-Level Workshop on NDLI and NDLI Club on Monday, 21st July 2025, from 10:00 AM to 05:00 PM at Auditorium 4, Block K, within the university campus in Guwahati.
This Workshop aimed to raise awareness and promote the use of the National Digital Library of India (NDLI) and its NDLI Club initiative among academic stakeholders. The event was tailored for librarians, faculty members, library professionals, and students, offering them a platform to explore the resources, tools, and opportunities available through NDLI.

The session began with a welcome address by Prof. N.C. Talukdar, Hon’ble Vice Chancellor of Assam down town University. In his remarks, Prof. Talukdar highlighted the importance of digital platforms like NDLI in democratizing access to knowledge and educational resources, especially for students in remote and underserved areas. This was followed by an address from the Chief Patron of the event, Dr. N.N. Dutta, Hon’ble Chancellor of ADTU. Dr. Dutta emphasized ADTU’s commitment to integrating national educational initiatives such as NDLI into campus life and curricula. He urged students to take full advantage of open digital platforms to supplement their academic and personal learning. Chairperson Prof. Pranveer Singh, Hon’ble Pro Vice Chancellor of ADTU, emphasized the university’s support for NDLI and urged students to make the most of digital platforms for enriched learning. Adding further significance to the session, the Hon’ble Chancellor of Nagaland University graced the event as the Guest of Honour, delivering a thoughtful address that underscored the role of digital libraries in enabling
inter-university collaboration, research development, and inclusive education.
The Chief Speaker for the workshop was Dr. B. Sutradhar, Joint Principle Investigator of NDLI and Librarian of Central Library IIT Kharagpur. He delivered an insightful presentation on the vision, objectives, and capabilities of the National Digital Library of India, highlighting its vast digital repository of academic resources in multiple languages and disciplines. He also spoke about how NDLI plays a critical role in democratizing education, supporting exam preparation, and enhancing lifelong learning for students, educators, and researchers.
A special academic insight was shared by Prof. Sanjay Kumar Singh, Head of theDepartment of Library and Information Science (DLIS), Guwahati University, Guwahati. Prof. Singh discussed the evolving role of librarians and the transformative potential of the NDLI in modern-day learning ecosystems. Following this, Dr. Prasanta Kumar Deka, Librarian at Guwahati University, addressed the gathering and highlighted the need for building awareness about structured digital resources among students and faculty. He also shared practical suggestions for effective use of NDLI tools in academic research. Mr. Sovan Nath, Outreach Manager of NDLI and a key resource person, delivered a thematic talk titled “Bridging the Knowledge Gap: The Role of NDLI Club in Education.” Mr. Nath highlighted how NDLI Clubs serve as vibrant platforms for knowledge sharing and collaborative learning across institutions, aligning with the vision of NEP 2020. The entire event was meticulously coordinated and managed by Dr. Rubi Goswami, Organizing Secretary of the workshop and Librarian at ADTU. Her dedicated leadership, attention to detail, and effective planning were instrumental in ensuring the smooth and successful execution of the workshop.
The workshop was marked by high energy and enthusiastic engagement, as participants actively took part in a quiz competition focused on NDLI and NDLI Club awareness. The event sparked strong interest among participants, culminating in a prize distribution ceremony to recognize and honor the winners.
