One Day Workshop on Exploring NDLI: Empowering Librarians with the Keys to Digital Knowledge

About the Event:

The Indian Institute of Management Sambalpur, in collaboration with the National Digital Library of India (NDLI), IIT Kharagpur, successfully conducted a one-day workshop titled “Exploring NDLI: Empowering Librarians with the Keys to Digital Knowledge” on July 11, 2025. The workshop aimed to enhance the digital capabilities of library professionals and promote the extensive use of NDLI as a pivotal tool for academic and research excellence..

The event was graced by Prof. Mahadeo Jaiswal, Director of IIM Sambalpur, who presided over the function as the Chief Guest. In his inaugural address, Prof. Jaiswal emphasized the transformative role of digital libraries in democratizing access to knowledge and encouraged academic institutions to adopt platforms like NDLI to support teaching, learning, and research.

Prof. Ramakrushna Padhy, Chairperson of the Library Committee, IIM Sambalpur, attended as the Guest of Honour. He spoke about the evolving role of libraries in the digital era and underscored the importance of embracing digital tools to stay relevant and efficient in knowledge dissemination.

The Chief Speaker for the workshop was Dr. B. Sutradhar, Joint Principle Investigator of NDLI and Librarian of Central Library IIT Kharagpur. He delivered an insightful presentation on the vision, objectives, and capabilities of the National Digital Library of India, highlighting its vast digital repository of academic resources in multiple languages and disciplines. He also spoke about how NDLI plays a critical role in democratizing education, supporting exam preparation, and enhancing lifelong learning for students, educators, and researchers.

Mr. Dubbendu Chakraborty, Senior Outreach Manager of NDLI and a key resource person, delivered a thematic talk titled “Bridging the Knowledge Gap: The Role of NDLI Club in Education.” Mr. Chakraborty highlighted how NDLI Clubs serve as vibrant platforms for knowledge sharing and collaborative learning across institutions, aligning with the vision of NEP 2020. The entire event was meticulously coordinated and managed by Dr. S. Kanan, Organizing Member of the workshop and Librarian at IIM Sambalpur. His dedicated leadership, attention to detail, and effective planning were instrumental in ensuring the smooth and successful execution of the workshop.

The workshop was marked by high energy and enthusiastic engagement, as participants actively took part in a quiz competition focused on NDLI and NDLI Club awareness. The event sparked strong interest among participants, culminating in a prize distribution ceremony to recognize and honor the winners.
