About the Event:

Sambalpur University, Odisha, in collaboration with the National Digital Library of India (NDLI), successfully organized a State Level One Day Workshop on National Digital Library of India (NDLI) and NDLI Club for University and College Libraries on 19th September 2025. Held at the Prof. Bhubaneswar Behera Central Library, the workshop aimed to strengthen the digital infrastructure of academic libraries, promote the role of NDLI in higher education, and explore the significance of NDLI Clubs in fostering collaborative learning environments in alignment with NEP 2020.

The event was inaugurated by Prof. Bidhu Bhusan Mishra, Hon’ble Vice Chancellor of Sambalpur University, who graced the occasion as the Chief Guest. In his address, Prof. Mishra highlighted the transformative impact of digital platforms like NDLI in democratizing access to quality educational resources and emphasized the need for universities and colleges to adopt such tools for academic and research advancement.

Prof. Tushar Kanti Das, Chairman of the P.G. Council, and Shree Ashok Kumar Behera, Registrar (I/c) & COF of Sambalpur University, attended the workshop as Guests of Honour. They stressed the importance of modernizing university libraries through digital means and reiterated the university’s commitment to embracing innovative educational technologies.

The Chief Speaker for the workshop was Dr. B. Sutradhar, Joint Principle Investigator of NDLI and Librarian of Central Library IIT Kharagpur. He delivered an insightful presentation on the vision, objectives, and capabilities of the National Digital Library of India, highlighting its vast digital repository of academic resources in multiple languages and disciplines. He elaborated on NDLI’s expansive multilingual repository, its role in supporting academic excellence, and its alignment with national educational reforms. He also delivered a compelling session, discussing the strategic importance of forming Registered NDLI Clubs, their role in bridging educational gaps, and fostering lifelong learning through collaborative knowledge exchange.

Prof. P. Mukhopadhyay, Professor in the Department of Information Science at the University of Kalyani, delivered an engaging session in which he explored how emerging technologies like Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Machine Learning (ML) are revolutionizing subject indexing in libraries. He highlighted how these advancements enable more efficient knowledge organization, enhance information retrieval, and contribute to the development of smarter digital library systems that cater to the evolving needs of academia and research. He also emphasized the critical role of digitization and the initiatives of the National Digital Library of India (NDLI) in nation-building, particularly in expanding access to knowledge and supporting inclusive education across the country.

The workshop was marked by high energy and enthusiastic engagement, as participants actively took part in a quiz competition focused on NDLI and NDLI Club awareness. The event sparked strong interest among participants, culminating in a prize distribution ceremony to recognize and honor the winners.
