Prof. Plaban Kumar Bhowmick is an eminent Indian computer scientist and Associate Professor at the Centre of Excellence in Artificial Intelligence (CoEAI), Indian Institute of Technology Kharagpur (IIT KGP), where he also serves as Head of the Department of Artificial Intelligence. He completed his B.Tech from the University of Calcutta and both M.S. and Ph.D. in Computer Science and Engineering from IIT Kharagpur. Before joining academia, he worked as a Research Scientist at TCS Innovation Labs.
Prof. Bhowmick’s research spans core and applied areas of Artificial Intelligence (AI), with a focus on Natural Language Processing (NLP), graph machine learning, educational technology, and digital libraries. His work often explores AI-driven solutions to educational challenges, such as automated answer grading, question generation, robust and explainable assessment models, and augmenting learning experiences using advanced AI techniques. He also investigates information extraction, academic genealogy networks, and metadata analysis for digital knowledge systems.
